Actor Bio
Deidre Hall plays Dr. Marlena Evans on NBC's daytime drama "Days of our Lives." Adored by fans spanning generations and continents, Deidre Hall is one of the most recognized and filmed faces in television history. Cherished by millions as the beautiful Dr. Marlena Evans, Hall has been a driving force in the success of NBC's the longest-running scripted drama "Days of our Lives."
Hall, a twin in a family of five children, was born to John and Jean Hall in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The family relocated to Lake Worth, Florida, when she was 6. The children attended the local public schools during which Hall played in the concert and marching band.
At 13, she was crowned the Junior Orange Bowl Queen, which kicked off her career in front of an audience, and later transitioned into modeling during high school. While in college, she covered news, interviews, editing and sign-on/sign-off duties at WLIZ radio, working five days a week. One of the first young women to host her own radio show, Hall's passion for interacting with people was given a platform at the station.
During a summer with friends in California, Hall supported herself by booking modeling jobs and commercials. Her charm and natural talent for connecting with people helped lead to a promising acting career. Her break came when she got the call that changed her life. NBC's "Days of our Lives" needed a beautiful, strong-minded and charismatic actress for their lead. It was a role that needed a woman who fit the empowering social movement of the mid 1970s and Deidre Hall was the perfect candidate. She was brought on as Dr. Marlena Evans in 1976 and the rest is television history. At the height of her daytime popularity, she was tapped to star opposite Wilford Brimley on NBC's hit primetime show "Our House."
Her desire to help people goes deep, and it has put her in the driver seat on several television projects over the years that have promoted the awareness of special needs children and women's issues. She was one of the first actresses to publicly speak about her fertility struggles and surrogate parenting, which helped open doors for women everywhere to talk about the fertility problems many faced every day but was seldom discussed. Hall co-wrote and executive produced the critically acclaimed ABC primetime special "Never Say Never, The Deidre Hall Story" - forever changing the impression of surrogacy by shining a light on the positive experience of bringing a child into the world through surrogacy.
Hall always believed in making time for community service. She produced multiple "Days of our Lives" calendars and cookbooks with proceeds going to St Jude's Children's Research Hospital. She more recently created greeting cards from her watercolor paintings with proceeds benefiting the Wounded Warriors Project. When her own children entered school, she joined the school board in an effort to improve the quality of school lunches. In 2009, Hall went on to speak to members of Congress encouraging them to renew the Child Nutrition Act, even hosting a press conference at the White House.
Later that year, she traveled with her son David to Brazil to work with disfigured children as an Ambassador for Operation Smile. Hall is an advocate for a healthy lifestyle and in turn co-wrote "Deidre Hall's Kitchen Close-up," targeting nutrition tips for those suffering with heart disease, diabetes and obesity. She later released her fan-favorite beauty book, "How Does She Do It?" originally titled, "Does This Mascara Make My Ass Look Big?"
Hall enjoys taking college courses in her free time and studying everything from ballroom dancing to American Sign Language to stand-up comedy, and eventually performed on stage at the famed Hollywood Improv. In 2016, after nearly 40 years as a respected and celebrated member of the daytime community, Hall was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She currently lives in Los Angeles.
