Alec Mercer is a professor and behavioral scientist on "The Irrational." Alec is a world-renowned expert on people's predictably irrational behavior. Alec's life changed 20 years ago when he went to see a politician speak at a church and the church was bombed. Alec lost his best friend in an instant, and he was burned on 60% of his body. Alec spent years in the hospital receiving torturously painful burn treatments. They saved his life but left him scarred. The "irrational" approach to changing his bandages led him to his field of study and a mission: to find ways to help people make better choices. Now Alec uses his expertise and data in pursuit of justice, for clients big and small, but always using his unique vantage point and the lens of behavioral science to guide him. When he's not helping out law enforcement, government officials, corporations or individuals who are in need of his skillset, he teaches at Wylton University, where he also runs the Wylton Institute for Advanced Hindsight with the help of student research assistants. And while Alec's passion for his work has brought him great success, it has also come with costs, most recently leading to a divorce from the love of his life, Marisa.
