Hysteria!: Everything to Know About Peacock's 1980s Satanic Panic Series

Are you ready to rock, roll, and worship the Prince of Darkness?

By Josh Weiss

Are you ready to rock, roll, and worship the Prince of Darkness? That's right, we're less than a month away from the premiere of Peacock's Satanic Panic series, Hysteria! Created by Matthew Scott Kane and David A. Goodman, the show turns the clock back to the 1980s for a delightfully retro tale inspired by the unfounded parental fear of children succumbing to the forces of the occult.

"Hysteria! is about both sides of that generational fear," Kane and Goodman said in a joint statement. "It’s about the thrills of being young, rebellious in spirit and aspirational at heart — and the horrors of growing up and realizing that the world you thought you knew has shifted beneath your feet. Our hope is that parents and children (of the appropriate age, of course) can enjoy the chills, the laughs, the music, and the heart of Hysteria! together. Growing up is scary. So is parenting."

What is Peacock's Hysteria! series about?

Set against the backdrop of the late 1980s, Hysteria! takes place in Happy Hollow, a sleepy Michigan town that finds itself unexpectedly rocked by incredibly strange happenings. When the star high school quarterback is seemingly kidnapped by a Satanic cult, the members of an unknown heavy metal band decide to capitalize on their fellow citizens' sudden interest in the occult, naively unaware that their decision to rebrand themselves as Devil worshippers will begin to spiral out of control. Is the mounting hysteria a baseless knee jerk reaction from highly conservative parents or are supernatural forces truly at work?
