What Is Love Undercover? Everything You Need to Know About Peacock's Soccer Dating Show
Five soccer stars head to Los Angeles to find love. Here's how the new Peacock show works.
Five international football stars are headed to America — but they’re not here to play soccer, as we call it in the States. No, instead these five athletes are looking for love, but they don’t want women to fall for them just because of their fame on the field. So, they’re taking off the cleats and putting on the charm in Peacock’s new reality series, Love Undercover.
Reality fans will no doubt get a kick out of Love Undercover, which premieres on May 9. Before that, though, here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming show.
What Is Love Undercover about?
Love Undercover follows five soccer stars — Jamie O’Hara, Ryan Babel, Lloyd Jones, Marco Fabián, and Sebastián Fassi — as they travel from their respective countries to Los Angeles, California. Once there, they adopt false identities, pretending to have more typical jobs like “ad salesman,” “conditioning coach,” or “construction worker” rather than the truth, which is that they’re soccer superstars. They’ll then court 18 eligible women. At the end, they’ll have to reveal the truth.
Here’s an official synopsis, per Peacock:
"Love Undercover is a modern-day fairytale meets buddy comedy about an elite group of international soccer stars who come to the United States on a secret quest for true love. We'll follow them on an epic journey filled with drama, heartbreak and self-discovery. Can they win over the ladies without their fame and fortune? Will they manage to keep their true identities a secret? And will any of them fall for an American princess before inviting them back to their home countries and testing their relationships on the global stage? For these men, finding love is the # 1 goal."
Who are the soccer stars on Love Undercover?
All of the contestants on Love Undercover are current or retired pro soccer players whose ages range from their late 20s to mid-30s. They hail from three different countries — all of which are countries that, generally speaking, are much more into soccer than the United States is. That's why they're traveling to Los Angeles to find a woman who could potentially fall in love with them for more than just their status in the sports world.
Jamie O’Hara is a 36-year-old retired Premier League star and current analyst from England. Ryan Babel, also 36, is from the Netherlands, and he played for the TFF First League club Eyüpspor. Lloyd Jones, 27, is also from England, and he currently plays for Charlton Athletic F.C. Marco Fabián, a 33-year-old who won an Olympic gold medal for Mexico at the 2012 games, currently plays for Empire Strykers. Finally, Sebastián Fassi, a 29-year-old who is also from Mexico, most recently played for Tlaxcala FC.
