This Scare Tactics Prankster Accidentally Unlocked Her Own Phobia with Epic Cat Prank
"It looked like the cast of the Broadway musical had descended upon us."
On Scare Tactics, if you’re not the person being pranked, you’re just trying to maintain your composure and not give anything away before the big reveal — the moment when the cat’s out of the bag, so to speak. That idiom was extra appropriate for Christie Garland, who subjected her veterinarian boyfriend, Dr. Kevin Scruggs, to a pack of human-sized cats on a recent episode of the Jordan Peele-produced reboot series.
To pull off the prank, Christie told Kevin that a friend of her dad's from church needed help with their pet cat.

“As a veterinarian, he has had a great deal of experience dealing with unruly cats. It is just a normal request when someone needs help with their cat,” Christie explained in an interview with USA Insider. “Although, there were a few times when he questioned me.”
That’s because when the pair arrived at the house and were introduced to Matt (played by Scare Tactics mainstay Jon Huck), and his elderly, cat-loving mother, there were a number of red flags. Despite claiming to only have one pet kitty, there were a ton of cat toys and accessories. And they were… upsettingly large.
“The freakiest part of this prank was the large baby swimming pools filled with cat litter. There was even human-sized poop in the cat litter! Also, the toys and scratching posts were all human-sized,” Christie recalled. “It was very freaky for me even though I knew it was a prank.”
It all led to a moment when, upon hearing some very loud cat sounds, Matt rejoined Kevin and Christie in the basement looking for his mom’s cat. Upon opening the door, a pack of humanoid felines leaped out and attacked. Kevin was startled — and so was Christie.
“Because I only knew the premise of the scare and not every little single detail, I was surprised too,” she explained. “The cat people pouring out of the door was a big shock to me. It looked like the cast of the Broadway musical had descended upon us. It happened so quickly I didn’t have time to prepare myself for the tidal wave of cat people spilling out onto the floor.”
While initially shocked into silence, the cats didn’t have Kevin’s tongue for too long before he attempted to help Matt and was told he was on Scare Tactics. Christie, who in the episode explained that she was trying to convince her boyfriend to go vegan with her, got one over on him. Would she have fallen for the prank had the roles been reversed?

“As a huge animal lover, I would have been more than willing to go to a strange house to help an elderly lady locate her cat,” she said, before revealing that the prank ended up touching on one of her own phobias before the human-sized cats burst through the door.
“One of my biggest fears is encountering an insane person who wants to lock me in a basement for his or her own amusement,” Christie explained. “So, therefore, I would have been truly scared when I saw the human-sized cat items. I would have been afraid that I was going to be kidnapped and turned into a pet human-cat. However, I’m not sure if I would have stayed there after seeing the enormous-sized cat litter boxes made out of baby swimming pools.”
So… a potential prank idea for Season 2?
