Are You Clever Enough To Determine The 'Snake In The Grass'? Here's How It's Done
On USA Network's new competition series "Snake In The Grass," contestants compete in physical and mental challenges — all while figuring out who among them is the saboteur.
Anyone who's watched a reality competition series before knows they're difficult to win — competing in tough physical challenges or deciphering complicated riddles doesn't exactly seem like a piece of cake. But what if someone you're supposed to be working alongside is actively sabotaging you along the way?
That's the basic premise of "Snake In The Grass," which premieres on USA Network on Monday, Aug. 1 at 11 p.m. ET/PT. Each episode of the series, hosted by radio and TV personality Bobby Bones, features a team completing a series of tough challenges, both physical and mental. Lucky for them, plenty of these contestants are familiar with that kind of thing: Many of the players have appeared on reality series before, including "Survivor," "Big Brother," and "Naked and Afraid." What's making it harder is that one member of the team is a "snake" — aka a saboteur bent on preventing the team from success. Oh, and did we mention a lot of cash is on the line?
Basically, it's a dream game show for any fans of games such as "Werewolf," "Mafia," or "Among Us." Here's more of a breakdown of how it works, so viewers can play along at home:
Each episode features four players, who are brought into the wilds of a Central American jungle. They have 36 hours to determine which one of them is the "snake." To figure it out, they compete in a series of challenges — think solving timed puzzles, tasks done on ziplines over canyons or while scaling cliffs, and more — and if they successfully finish them, they get a clue to the snake's identity. That means it's not just important for them to keep an eye on how their fellow teammates perform during these challenges (after all, they are tough, which means everyone fails occasionally during them!), but also to talk and get to know each other. That way, they can piece together any personal details they're given. And of course, it gives the snake more reason to sabotage: They don't want the team to get these clues toward their identity!
Eventually, all players meet up in the "Snake Pit" with Bobby Bones. It's there that they discuss who they think the snake is and try to convince each other of their belief (which gives the snake yet another opportunity to manipulate them). They then make a decision — and if the three other players successfully decide who the snake is, they win $100,000. If not, well, the snake gets to walk away with the grand prize all by themselves.
Part of the fun is watching at home and seeing if you can figure out the snake's identity before the other players do. It's so satisfying if your guess is right — but also fun to see where and how you got it wrong if you do (especially when thousands of dollars aren't on the line!).
