"This Car Really Shook Things Up": Tyler Reddick on 2022 Next Gen Car

Now sitting atop the NASCAR Cup Series leaderboard for the first time in the five years since he’s been in racing’s top flight, it’s clear that Tyler Reddick, the mild-mannered wheelman of the No. 45 Toyota Camry, isn’t shying away from his moment in the limelight.

Powered to the summit by a pair of impressive victories, including a hard-fought win during the makeup conclusion of the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway – a triumph that prompted former Cup Series champion Brad Keselowski to declare that Reddick “deserved to win the race” – all signs reinforce the notion that Michael Jordan’s driver is poised to make waves come playoff time.

Where is Tyler Reddick From?

Born in the humble hamlet of Corning, California, the now 28-year-old Tyler Reddick has been racing since he was 4.  In 2011, at the tender age of 15, he won Rookie of the Year honors in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, a harbinger of things to come for the young phenom. Seven years later, in 2018, Reddick not only was named Rookie of the Year in the Xfinity Series, he won the series championship. And then he won it again the next year.

He made his debut in the elite NASCAR Cup Series in 2019 and earned his first top-10 finish in that division the next year at Darlington.

Is Tyler Reddick Married?

Reddick and his longtime girlfriend Alexa DeLeon got married July 25, 2024 in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, according to the 23X1 Racing site. The couple share a 4-year-old son, Beau, and had been engaged since late May of 2023. Thanks to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France, a two-week hiatus from the high-octane NASCAR Cup Series season was organically built in, providing the perfect window for the love birds to get hitched in front of family and friends.

In a loving tribute to his wife, Reddick posted an intimate snap to Instagram shortly after the nuptials with the message, “With you forever, My Love. ❤️”  The joyful family of three currently resides in Mooresville, North Carolina.

Who Does Tyler Reddick Drive For?

Though he spent his first three seasons with Richard Childress Racing, Tyler Reddick now races under the 23XI Racing banner alongside teammate Bubba Wallace for the six-time NBA Champion and Chicago Bulls legend, Michael Jordan, who partnered with Denny Hamlin in founding the team.

After winning Talladega in April, Reddick spoke to Dale Earnhardt Jr. on his podcast, recounting what it was like to witness Jordan’s joy and what his unwavering support means to him.

“It was very apparent from the moment I saw him how much this win meant to him, for him to be there, how much it meant to our team that he was able to share it with us,” Reddick told Earnhardt Jr. “Michael so badly wanted to get to victory lane.”

“The words that were exchanged were important and cool too, but the thing that was just so obvious to me right from the moment of getting out of the car and seeing him was how much this meant to him and how excited he was to share it with us.”

A heartfelt video of Jordan from Talladega this year went viral as it didn’t just showcase a genuinely happy owner, giddy with the success from one of his drivers. A special guest made a very special cameo: Beau!

In the short Tiktok clip, Jordan can be seen holding Reddick’s son with a huge smile on his face before saying, “He did a great job. Are you ready to celebrate?” An emphatic “Yes!” from Beau triggered a hearty chuckle from the Tarheel hero before he returned the youngster to Reddick’s wife, who also has an interesting connection to Jordan. DeLeon’s father, Jose DeLeon, played professional baseball as a pitcher, and he spent time with Jordan as a teammate during M.J.’s short stint in the Chicago White Sox farm system. Reddick mentioned the connection to The Athletic in May.

“They [Jordan and DeLeon] got to know each other through that,” detailed Reddick, who said he wishes he knew more about the connection. “I think there’s even a picture — I could be wrong — of M.J. holding Alexa as a baby. I feel like that’s a story I heard years ago.”
