Where Is Gallatin, Missouri, Setting of The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys?
All of the drama on the new series takes place about 70 miles from Kansas City.
Thanks to pop culture, odds are good that your mental image of a cattle ranch probably involves the wild, wild west. However, The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys, a high-stakes docuseries about a powerful cattle ranching family on the brink of either ruin or untold success, takes place a little more than an hour’s drive from Kansas City, Missouri.
Before The McBee Dynasty debuts on Monday, March 11, here’s everything you need to know about the rural town where all the drama goes down: Gallatin, Missouri.
What Is The McBee Dynasty About?
The McBee Dynasty takes viewers behind the scenes of the high-stakes world of farming and ranching in rural Missouri. McBee Farm and Cattle could become a billion-dollar business — unless it comes to ruin, first. Patriarch Steve McBee must deal with a make-or-break decision by a venture capital firm while also balancing the many relationships in his life. He’s involved with McBee’s CFO, Galyna, but he’s still a womanizer, leading to tension with his three sons Steven Jr., Jesse, and Cole over the farm’s ownership once he retires.
Will the farm survive? If it does, who will be leading it into the future?
What Is Gallatin, Missouri, Like?
Originally inhabited by Sauk, Meskwaki, and Pottawatomi Native American tribes, Gallatin was formally founded in 1837 and named for former U.S. Secretary of Treasury Albert Gallatin. Located in northwest Missouri, Gallatin is about 70 miles northeast of Kansas City and about 270 miles northwest of St. Louis.

It’s a small city, with an area of less than 3 square miles and a total population of 1,821 people, according to the most recent census. Despite its small size, there have been a few notable people to come out of Gallatin in addition to the McBee family. Missouri’s 30th governor, Alexander M. Dockery, U.S. Senator Conrad Burns, and Walter Page, an influential jazz double bassist who played with the Count Basie Orchestra, all hailed from Gallatin.
Gallatin is also a notable place in the history of Mormonism. Adam-ondi-Ahman, the place where members of the Church of Latter Day Saints believe Adam and Eve lived after they were expelled from the Garden of Eden, is just a few miles away, and the Election Day Battle at Gallatin marked the outbreak of the first Mormon War.
These days, Gallatin isn’t so dramatic (not counting the drama on The McBee Dynasty). Described as a quaint, small town, TripAdvisor lists a tour of the Squirrel Cage Jail as the main tourist attraction.
How do I stream it?
All 10 episodes of the series will stream on Peacock on Monday, Mar 11. The first episode of the series will also premiere on USA Network on Mar 11 at 11 p.m. ET and air weekly thereafter.
