'It's Going To Be Different': Whitney and Austin Dillon On What They Wanted From Reality TV
Austin and Whitney Dillon always knew they wanted a reality show with their friends, Mariel and Paul Swan
Austin and Whitney Dillon are very excited to lean into the “reality” aspect of their new reality TV series on USA Network, “Austin Dillon's Life In The Fast Lane.”
A lot of people say their lives with their friends would be good fodder for a TV show, but in the case of the Dillons and their friends Mariel and Paul Swan, it became a reality. Speaking to USA Insider, the duo explained they’d talked about making a show but agreed unanimously that they’d only do it if it could be with their BFFs.
“I told the whole group that I wouldn't do a reality show unless it was just us four,” Austin explained. “We had opportunities along the way, and things probably didn't work out. And I made a commitment after their first show, the ‘Racing Wives’ show, that I'm not doing anything unless it's our group.”
Whitney and Mariel previously appeared on the CMT series “Racing Wives” but felt like there was something missing when it came to presenting their real lives on TV. That feeling only got worse when social media took over everyone’s lives, according to Whitney.
“So, for me, I'm really excited because I feel like these days and times, everybody, they just like look at Instagram. And you just like naturally sum up what you think someone is from Instagram, or how you think they are,” Whitney said. “So, I'm just really excited for people to truly get to see our friendship, our relationships, our family and what we do.”
She added: “You really get an inside look at it. And so I'm just excited because it's probably going to be different than what you think just by looking at our Instagram.”
Who are they really? According to Austin, they’re exactly the fun-loving and hard-working people the new show makes them out to be.
“We can be ourselves and have control over it. Because I just wanted it always to come out as being like what we really are,” he concluded. “That's just a fun-loving group that really enjoy being around each other and creating memories. Hopefully, we shed light on good relationships and God.”
“Austin Dillon’s Life In The Fast Lane” airs Thursdays at 9:30/8:30c on USA Network.
