Clash At The Castle: What To Expect When These WWE Titans Invade Wales
The card looks absolutely stacked with star-studded championship matchups and heated rivalries that can only be settled inside the ring.
For the first time in more than 30 years, WWE is returning to the United Kingdom for a stadium pay-per-view show when Clash at the Castle airs tomorrow from Cardiff, Wales.
The card looks absolutely stacked with star-studded championship matchups and heated rivalries that can only be settled inside the ring. Social media is buzzing with excitement ahead of Clash at the Castle, but what can fans actually expect from the show? Here are the moments we need to be paying extra close attention to ahead of this premium live event.
Seth Rollins vs. Matt Riddle
Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle’s rivalry has gotten extremely personal over the course of the past week and it all escalated after Rollins crossed the line in an interview last Monday on RAW. We knew emotions were running high after the two engaged in a parking lot brawl before the show even went on the air, but when Rollins talked about Matt Riddle’s divorce and children, he took it to an unprecedented level of sensitivity and profanity.
When The Architect and The King of Bros square off on Saturday, fans can expect an emotional and frenetic matchup from these two. Riddle will obviously be looking to settle the score with Rollins and will probably be amped up. He needs to be careful not to let his emotions get the best of him, as Rollins has been doing some of the best work of his career and will sniff out Riddle’s weakness. Fans should be getting a fantastic matchup between these two warriors and we can’t wait to see it happen.
Sheamus vs. Gunther
Gunther is scheduled to defend his Intercontinental Championship in what could be one of WWE’s most physical matchups of all time. These guys are two behemoths whose offenses are based on toughness and hitting hard. The WWE Universe can expect Gunther and Sheamus to beat the life out of each other and leave the other battered and bruised.
WWE has clearly been trying to add to the prestige of the United States and Intercontinental Championships as of late. With Bobby Lashley and Gunther as the champions, WWE is headed in the right direction with two monster title holders, but Sheamus is more than capable of beating Gunther and becoming one of the only Ultimate Grand Slam champions in WWE. This match is a must-see and will be sure to raise the bar when it comes to stiff shots and hard-hitting strikes.
Shayna Baszler vs. Liv Morgan
In one of the most intriguing matchups in WWE today, Liv Morgan is set to defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Shayna Baszler. Although Morgan is the champion, she has felt like an underdog in every defense, and this weekend is no different. Baszler has been beating up Morgan for weeks on end, most recently targeting her arm and delivering a huge kick to the face two weeks ago on SmackDown.
In order to even up the odds against the former UFC fighter, Morgan enlisted the help of Matt Riddle, a former UFC competitor in his own right to teach her submission defense and some grappling during her off days this week. Only time will tell if Morgan is prepared enough to deal with the Queen of Spades, but Morgan has proven us wrong many times in the past. After all, she says that’s what fuels her fire. Baszler, however, is one of the most technically gifted performers in WWE, so fans can expect this match to be a true test for Morgan and force her to evolve as a fighter.
Drew McIntyre vs. Roman Reigns
At no other time over the course of The Tribal Chief’s now two-year title reign did we think he was in more danger of losing it than he is this weekend. Something seems different about Drew McIntyre, as he is laser focused on the WWE Undisputed Universal Heavyweight Championship. Over the past few months, he has slowly scratched and clawed his way back into the title picture, and has exchanged more than just words with the rest of The Bloodline.
What fans can look forward to about this match is the big fight feel that will be in the air in Cardiff.
McIntyre is at the top of his game right now and has home field advantage, but Reigns is in self-proclaimed "God mode" and doing the best work of his career right now too. This feels like a WrestleMania-caliber match and The Scottish Psychopath is going to do everything in his power to end Roman’s title reign. This is one of the more unpredictable matches on the card, and we can’t wait for this main event!
You can stream WWE Clash at the Castle live on the WWE Network on Peacock tomorrow!
