New Day Unsurprised by Kevin Owens Attacking Cody Rhodes: "Happens All the Time"

For years, the WWE Universe could always rely on Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods — collectively known as New Day — to be upfront and candid when speaking about anything professional wrestling-related. So when USA Insider had an opportunity to talk to them, about their careers and the biggest shocker in WWE right now, they did not disappoint.

On October 9, USA Insider caught up with Kingston and Woods for a quick conversation about the latest happenings in WWE. Things have been chaotic, to say the least, since Bad Blood went kicked off on October 2, and New Day are the perfect Superstars to set the record straight.

The internet has been buzzing with speculation ever since fan footage made its way across social media of Kevin Owens attacking Cody Rhodes in the parking lot of the State Farm Arena. There were no WWE cameras present, but that didn't stop the WWE Universe from bearing witness to one of the most brutal attacks in recent history! 

Just moments after Bad Blood ended, Owens approached his longtime ally in the parking lot, exchanged words, and proceeded to beat down the Undisputed WWE Champion before speeding away in his Lamborghini! It was a shocking behind-the-scenes moment that, fortunately, was captured by a handful of fans who were quick enough to record the tense scene on their smartphones.

USA Insider asked Kingston and Woods straight-up: does this kind of thing happen with regularity when WWE cameras aren't rolling? Do wild brawls happen like this all the time?

"You guys have watched the show —  how many times have you seen, while the cameras are on backstage, people just fighting, somebody getting thrown through a wall?" Woods answered. "Bronson Reed and Braun Strowman just have been destroying each other backstage. It's pretty much, when you sign up to do this, you know that once you walk into the arena, or anywhere in the arena's vicinity, assault is just a possibility."

From Woods' point of view, these kinds of sneak attacks are just part of life in WWE's locker room — they come with the territory. Kingston agreed with his partner's assessment.

"Yeah, it's the nature of the business," the former WWE Champion explained. "And you got to imagine, you guys see, but two or three hours of it. Well, the camera doesn't roll all the time. There's still action going on. You know what I mean? So, uh, yes, to answer your question. That stuff happens all the time."

New Day downplays recent drama on Monday Night RAW

Longtime WWE fans may have noticed something different over the past month: it seems like New Day is not getting along like fans are accustomed to them doing.

As the two Superstars quickly approach the tenth anniversary of New Day's formation, it seems at times like Kingston and Woods are coming apart at the seams — live before our very eyes. It started with innocuous comments between the two men over a month ago, and now it seems more likely than ever that the two men can no longer see eye-to-eye. Of course, far less legendary tag teams than New Day have been able to work through their issues and go on to continue their legacies — so maybe this so-called "drama" is overblown. 

When we asked New Day about their apparent issues unfolding on-screen, Kingston explained that, just like in real life, family members don't always see eye to eye — but they are family nonetheless.

"It's one of those things, you know?" Kingston said. "There are a lot of people out there who have friends and family who, you know, you butt heads sometimes. And you work through it, you do your best to work through it. That's really kind of all that you can do, you just take it one step at a time and you try to make up for your shortcomings. You know what I mean?"

Woods was also quick to alleviate any concerns for the WWE Universe.

"We're good, man," he said.
