WWE Superstar Sonya Deville Announces Engagement To 'Her Dream Person'
Sonya Deville got engaged in a New Jersey wine cellar to her girlfriend Toni Cassano, and it couldn’t have happened to a more wonderful WWE Superstar!
One of WWE’s most talented and beloved Superstars is officially on cloud nine – and it has nothing to do with success inside a wrestling ring!
Sonya Deville announced her engagement to girlfriend Toni Cassano on Wednesday, setting off fireworks across social media. The setting was a romantic wine cellar cave in New Jersey, and in true Sonya Deville fashion, the evening had one adorable twist! According to our PEOPLE, after Sonya’s jaw-dropping proposal was accepted by Toni, her new fiancée dropped to one knee herself to return the favor!
Even Sonya herself was shocked at this unexpected twist:
"I proposed, then Toni's like, 'Grab my purse.' And she pulls out a freaking ring box, and she's like, 'I've been carrying this around in my purse for four months. So whenever you proposed, I could give you a ring immediately back,’” she recalled.

(That may be the most romantic thing we’ve heard in a long time.)
The best part? Not only is Sonya welcoming Toni – whom she lovingly described as “her dream person” – into her life, she’s also happily integrating Toni’s two young daughters as well. Not surprisingly, Sonya included the two girls in the proposal itself.
"I wanted to make it was something that they were super involved in," Sonya said. "But I also wanted them to be surprised because I wanted them to have a memorable moment too."
Sonya and Toni met last April, where a meeting after a WWE live event turned into a late-night pizza session that ran into the early morning. (Nevermind, that’s the most romantic thing we’ve heard in a long time.) The rest, they say, is history.
"I was instantly like, 'This girl is the love of my life,'” she said of the first time they met.
Of course, Sonya is well aware of the spotlight that will now be shown on her, but it’s attention that she is looking forward to. After all, just a few years ago, she found herself in a high-profile executive role on Monday Night Raw, a position that garnered her tons of attention.
"It's so cool to me to be in this position right now, to be engaged as a gay female in the WWE, and to have proposed to my fiancée. Because I look back at seven years ago, eight years ago when I wasn't even openly out yet, and I was hiding relationships, and I was still trying to figure out my comfortability with being gay and who I was," she said.
All in all, it was an unforgettable evening for everybody involved – the night truly sounds like it was magical, and we’re sure it was a moment that Sonya, Toni, and the girls will never forget.
When she’s not setting the bar for the most romantic way to propose to the love of your life, Sonya’s been busy in the ring lately. We’re happy to hear that despite competing in recent SmackDown Women’s title matches, she’s been able to focus on the things that really matter outside of the competitive and often-turbulent confines of WWE.
We don’t know about you, but we think Sonya taking such a monumental step will only translate into making her an even more dangerous WWE Superstar. After all, she’s not only fighting for her new fiancée but two kids as well! Nothing is a bigger motivator than family, so don’t be surprised if you see Sonya Deville reach heights on SmackDown. If she manages to get another title shot against Charlotte Flair in the near future, who knows – the outcome could be completely different than it was in January.
For now, we’re sure Sonya and Toni are still sipping on champagne somewhere, celebrating their upcoming nuptials.
"It truly was the biggest blur ever," Sonya said. "All I remember is both of us shaking so bad.”
