'I'm An Untouchable Shark': Being Vulnerable Only Makes The Miz Stronger In The Ring
The Miz and Mike Mizanin are one and the same, but they can still learn from each other in and out of the WWE ring.
As any good WWE fan knows, The Miz is awesome. Whether he’s taking down his fellow Superstars to become a two-time WWE Champion, talking smack on “Miz TV,” or raising his two daughters alongside his wife, Maryse, Mike “The Miz” Mizanin knows what he’s about. That’s why it’s so fun to see all sides of his personality on USA Network’s “Miz & Mrs,” which follows the Mizanin family’s busy lives in and out of the ring.
With the Season 3 premiere of “Miz & Mrs” coming to USA Network on June 6, The Miz has been digging deep and reflecting on his career thus far. In a recent appearance on the podcast “Death, Taxes, and Bananas,” he opened up about the sides of himself viewers only really see on “Miz & Mrs,” and explained that while The Miz is one way, Mike is “a baby.”
“It was my armor that, literally, you could say anything about The Miz, ‘I don’t care, it doesn’t hurt my feelings.’ Mike, on the other hand, he’s a baby. He’s very sensitive. The reason I have such good comebacks and I’m so loud and brash is because whenever I do get made fun of, I am able to make fun of you even harder so it takes it all off of me,” he told host Johnny Bananas. “The Miz, now in WWE, I don’t mind The Miz being vulnerable because it adds layers to the character and you. ‘Miz & Mrs’ adds a whole new layer to me because it’s really me. You want Mike Mizanin? You will see me with my wife and kids.”
And fans have been seeing every side of The Miz since “Miz & Mrs” premiered on USA Network in 2018. They’ve seen the Mizanin family through good times and not-so-good times.
When the Mizanins had to put down their beloved dog Mocha, Mike admits he’d never uncontrollably cried until that moment. As difficult as it was, opening himself up to those kinds of deep emotions he’d held back from for so many years proved cathartic and allowed him to grow as a performer.
“That’s the kind of vulnerability that, usually, on ‘The Challenge,’ you didn’t want to let out because we’re sharks and when you’re around sharks, you don’t want to put blood in the water. Now, I look at it like I’m an untouchable shark. In WWE, I am so confident in my ability that even if I give emotion like that, it will make it that much more and will make it more powerful. It makes me more powerful.”
It will also only help him in his greatest challenge yet: Raising his toddler-age daughters, Monroe and Madison. Luckily, Mike’s got Maryse at his side, and fans can watch the Mizanin family’s latest trials and triumphs in “Miz & Mrs” Season 3, premiering June 6 with back-to-back episodes at 11 and 11:30 p.m. ET/PT on USA Network.
