Salman Rushdie is a British Indian author. His 1981 novel Midnight's Children was awarded the Booker Prize, while 1988's The Satanic Verses caused much controversy among the Muslim community, leading Rushdie to receive death threats. In addition to fiction, Rushdie has also published a book of stories - East, West - and four works of nonfiction. His 12th novel, Two Years Eight Months and Twenty-Eight Nights, will be published in September.
