Who Is Michèle Lacroix, Wife of Premier League Star Kevin De Bruyne?
A Hail Mary by Manchester City’s star midfielder led to a rebound of a lifetime.
Big things often have small beginnings, but a single tweet? Yep, Twitter did the trick for Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne’s love life.
If the carnival of love’s got you down, embracing a little technology might help you land your sugar-boo. Millions of successful relationships have evolved from various match-making websites and mobile applications. Still, if that seems like too much effort, sometimes, to land that prized fish, you’ve got to switch up the bait, and, in De Bruyne’s case, Twitter was just what the doctor ordered.
How did Kevin De Bruyne meet his wife Michèle Lacroix?
When De Bruyne is long done shredding up the pitch, he won’t tell his proverbial brood of grandchildren bouncing on his knee how he met the love of his life Michèle Lacroix at a sock-hop dance or another antiquated social ritual. Instead, Man City’s tactical maestro found his paramour in the digital land of Oz: Twitter.

"It started with a tweet,” revealed Belgium’s talisman to The Players’ Tribune in 2019 about meeting Lacroix online in 2014. “I only had a few thousand followers at the time because I was still on loan at Werder Bremen. So, I tweeted something about a match or whatever, and this pretty girl favorited it. I was single at the time, and my friend noticed it. So, he said, 'She looks like a nice girl, no? You should send her a message.'"
The midfielder confirmed he “didn't even have the heart to slide into my future wife's DMs," so his friend sent her a message on his behalf.
"Thankfully, he sent the message for me, and she responded," De Bruyne continued. "We got to know each other over text for a few months. It's a lot easier for me once I get to know someone, so after that, I was good. It really was a beautiful thing."
What is Michèle Lacroix’s background and professional career?
Born December 8, 1993, Lacroix grew up in the town of Genk in the Flemish region of Belgium, according to SportMob. After high school, Lacroix studied at the University of Hasselt and, upon graduating from the esteemed institution, she took a job working for Prime Impressions Hostesses in Hasselt as the company’s guest and promotional director.
Lacroix, who regularly posts to her 376,000 Instagram followers, is now a co-host of the Secret Society podcast. Hailing itself as “Your dose of girl talk” on its Instagram page, Lacroix speaks with a variety of Dutch and Belgian celebrities.
She and Kevin are also highly committed to charitable giving and, according to Bleacher Report, they previously partnered with the children’s charity Rays of Sunshine. In 2019, the soccer star and his wife posted photos to Instagram of the couple engaging with children in a Manchester hospital through Roc Nation Sports’ “Kicks for Kids” campaign.
When were Kevin De Bruyne and Michèle De Bruyne married, and do they have children?
While he wasn’t exactly the smoothest operator right off the bat, De Bruyne made up for it by acing the engagement and nuptials. The star footballer proposed to Lacroix in December 2016 at none other than the Eiffel Tower in Paris. After somehow finding the one place on earth that could top the City of Love, Kevin married Michèle in Sorrento, Italy in June 2017. The happy couple shared photos of the glamorous affair on Instagram with De Bruyne captioning a pic he posted with, “So proud I can call you my wife now!” Manchester City’s ultimate facilitator also posted a photo to commemorate their one-year anniversary, writing, “Happy one year anniversary baby. It has been an amazing year with many more to come."
The happy couple share three children together. Their eldest son, Mason Milian, was born in March 2016, and the pair welcomed their second son, Rome, in October 2018. Not done yet, Kevin and Michèle had their third child in 2020, their only daughter, Suri.
Since entering the Etihad’s hallowed halls in 2015, De Bruyne has arguably been the engine behind Man City’s success, propelling the Citizens to four Premier League titles during his tenure, including the 2017-2018 season where City set a record for being the only Premier League team to garner 100 points. With his squad locked in a title race with Arsenal, De Bruyne is hoping to add a fifth championship title to his collection.
Still, despite all the records and feats he’s set with the Sky Blues, he’d undoubtedly say that the best thing that has happened since joining the team was meeting Lacroix and starting a family together.
