Iris And Luke From 'Temptation island' Finally Address The Breakup Rumors
"Temptation Island" Season 4 couple Iris Jardiel and Luke Wechselberger released a video to confirm their relationship status.
The couple who made up the only success story from “Temptation Island” Season 4 offered a deeply personal update on their relationship status following months of speculation that they broke off their engagement.
Fans began to wonder over the summer if Iris Jardiel and Luke Wechselberger had ended their engagement after she removed most of the photos of him from her Instagram. She was also pictured several times without her engagement ring. Meanwhile, he wasn't posting about Iris or his relationship either.
On Thursday, Iris revealed she started a YouTube channel. She posted her first video of her and Luke addressing the rumors directly and revealing whether or not they broke up.
In short, fans of their journey on “Temptation Island” will be happy to hear they are still together and engaged. However, that doesn’t mean something wasn’t going on. The couple admitted that over the summer they took a break from each other.
Most of their journey apart on “Temptation Island” saw Iris grappling with the fact she didn’t really know herself outside the relationship. After the show ended, she and Luke had to admit they both still had some personal growth to do, so they made the tough decision to temporarily separate.
“When we were talking about wedding planning and what our lives would look like together, there was still so much growing individually that we needed to do for ourselves,” Iris explained in the video. “So, when we decided to take time apart off in July, basically, we weren’t going to just find someone new. We really wanted to discover ourselves more.”
She later added: “Things started feeling like they weren’t quite right. We wanted to get to know ourselves individually and see what that was like, then maybe circle back after a few months to really figure out if we wanted to be together and make that lifelong commitment.”
Luke noted that, in addition to everything going on in his relationship, he had business and family obligations that were pulling him in multiple directions. Taking a break from Iris allowed him to not only address those other things but determine the value his relationship had in his life as well.
“There was a lot on my plate, and Iris and I both felt like taking a little time apart just to discover ourselves and really see what we want was the most mature thing to do,” he explained.
During that time, they both made great strides in their careers and in their individual mental health. However, they still felt the absence of the other person in their lives.
Luke claimed it was like they were back on “Temptation Island” all over again.
“At times I felt like I couldn’t help but ask some of my friends ‘Hey, how’s Iris doing?’ I couldn’t help but check in,” he said. “I felt like I was going through some difficult times. That self-journey, even though I was growing a lot, I was still missing Iris. I even went to lengths to message some of her actual girlfriends to get some advice from them.”
Luke admitted he even reached out to Iris’ “Temptation Island” bestie, Gillian Lieberman, for some insight into what they needed as a couple.
“I just wanted to get the best advice. I even sought some counseling and got some online therapy sessions just because, the family situation, everything, it was just insane,” he said. “The pressure of the show coupled with everything else going on was insane. During that time, we grew so much and when I actually got to see Iris, she looked so freaking good. Just like on that month on the island of not seeing her and then finally seeing her for the first time!”
Iris agreed, saying that seeing Luke thrive in his career while they were separated made her realize all the potential he has.
“This short ‘breakup’ that we had, or space that we took apart from each other, was probably the best thing that ever happened to us,” she said.
The duo then got frank about some issues involving Luke’s family that triggered their separation as well. He revealed his mother is suffering from several mental health issues including bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. As a result, she requires a lot of care, which all falls on Luke's shoulders since his brother has been in an institution for many years.
“Unfortunately, that kind of took a toll on Iris and my relationship in regards to what the future outlook was going to be for a family we would have together,” Luke explained. “There were always questions lingering about that.”
Iris then got emotional revealing she had serious concerns about those issues playing a role in their decision to have children.
“It’s really sad and it’s no one’s fault, and I don’t want to sound selfish in any way, but imagining my future kid… yeah…” she said holding back tears.
“That’s definitely a worry,” Luke admitted.
Iris concluded by noting the time they took apart after the show was almost as formative to their relationship as actually being on it. In the end, it helped them both discover who they are and that they’re truly and maturely in love and ready to get married.
“At the end of the day, through all of this time that we took apart, we decided that we really truly love each other and we can’t imagine life without each other at this point,” she said. “We’ve been through so much together, so many memories were built together and honestly… You’re my best friend.”
