WWE Backlash France: How to Watch and What to Expect
The follow-up to WrestleMania will have an international flavor in 2024! Here's how to catch WWE Backlash France.
Few things are more exciting than the first WWE Premium Live Event after WrestleMania, international PLEs, and a WWE Champion's first official title defense. As it so happens, in just a few weeks, Backlash France will host all three of those enticing propositions!
The annual event is named "Backlash" for a reason. It's where the fallout from WrestleMania continues unabashed – if WrestleMania is an earthquake, Backlash is the aftershocks that the WWE Universe feels over and over again. And for the second year in a row, Backlash will take place outside the continental United States, giving the PLE a decidedly international flavor in 2024.
Here's everything the WWE Universe should know about Backlash France, including how to tune in to witness the historic event live.
What is Backlash France?
WrestleMania has come and gone, and many fans believe it to be the most incredible event in WWE history. That's not hyperbole. Even if you exclude Cody Rhodes finally finishing the story and vanquishing Roman Reigns (and The Rock, by proxy) to become Undisputed WWE Champion, moments like Sami Zayn shockingly ending GUNTHER's 666-day run as Intercontinental Champion, Bayley defeating her former friend IYO SKY for the WWE Women's Title, and Damian Priest finally putting his Money in the Bank contract to good use to spoil Drew McIntyre's World Heavyweight Title celebration, there were plenty of fireworks to be had in Philadelphia.
Of course, when you have an event as gigantic as WrestleMania 40, there obviously needs to be a follow-up. That's where Backlash France comes in.
When and Where Will Backlash France Take Place?
Backlash France is right around the corner – Saturday, May 4, 2024, to be exact.
LDLC Arena, located in Décines-Charpieu in the Lyon Metropolis of France, is a state-of-the-art indoor entertainment facility that opened in 2023 to give fans of all ages the best possible venue for live entertainment – WWE included. Backlash France will be the first WWE Premium Live Event in the country's history, and we feel that more than a handful of memorable moments will take place throughout the evening.
While WWE frequently makes trips to France for untelevised live events, an honest-to-goodness Premium Live Event is the logical reward for the fans in the country. The WWE Universe in France has been growing in recent years, and we wouldn't be surprised to see Backlash France as the precursor to countless more French PLEs in the future!
How to Watch Backlash France
We love international WWE Premium Live Events because of their delightfully early start time (for fans in North America, at least) – Backlash France will be no different, as the event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. ET. Per tradition, the official Backlash France Kickoff Show will occur an hour before the opening bell.
As always, there's only one place to catch Backlash France (and the rest of WWE's Premium Live Events throughout 2024) – Peacock! Catching WrestleMania 40 on Peacock was almost too easy for casual fans and die-hard wrestling fanatics; it's as straightforward as logging on to Peacock, selecting Backlash France, and, well, that's it!
What the WWE Universe Should Expect From Backlash France
Last year's Backlash event, which took place in Puerto Rico, was as memorable as WWE PLEs get. Part of the appeal was the unbelievable crowd that only added to the unbelievable atmosphere – but we'll be honest, much of the appeal can be credited to the unbelievable performances that countless Superstars put on.
However, don't be surprised if Backlash France claims the crown as "Best Backlash Ever" when the dust clears because it's slated to host the first-ever Undisputed WWE Championship title defense by Cody Rhodes. AJ Styles has staked his claim to Cody's newly-won title, and the former multi-time WWE Champion is looking to regain his place on top of WWE for the first time since 2018.
If you thought the road Cody Rhodes went down in the past few years was challenging, wait until you see how difficult it will be for The American Nightmare to hold on to the championship he craved throughout his career. There is a target on the Superstar, and AJ Styles will get the first crack out of derailing the feel-good story of the year – losing the Undisputed WWE Championship so soon after winning it in such dramatic fashion would be an abject failure in every respect.
Rhodes and AJ Styles clashing for the top title in WWE won't be the only high-stakes match at Backlash France – the WWE Universe should expect a handful of other title matches and intriguing bouts in addition to the historic main event.
You can tune in to Peacock to watch Backlash France on May 4. In the meantime, catch up on all things WWE Universe on Peacock.
