Raquel Rodriguez Reveals MCAS Diagnosis With Powerful Video of her Symptoms
The former women's tag team champion, Raquel Rodriguez, has been privately dealing with a medical condition.
For the past few months, WWE Raw Superstar Raquel Rodriguez had been conspicuous by her absence on Monday nights, leaving fans wondering what was keeping her from competing in the ring – especially as WrestleMania draws closer.
To the shock of many in the WWE Universe, Raquel made her return to Monday Night Raw on February 19, winning a last-chance battle royal to become the final participant in the women's Elimination Chamber match at Elimination Chamber 2024! It was an emotional night for the former champion, who now looks to defeat five other women in Perth in one of the most dangerous matches WWE offers. However, amid her battles in the ring, Rodriguez revealed that she's dealing with a medical battle in her personal life.
Raquel Rodriguez Reveals MCAS Diagnosis Following 2024 Absence
As she focuses on Elimination Chamber and her own Road to WrestleMania, Raquel Rodriguez took to social media to reveal what had kept her out of action for the last few months. As it turns out, she has been dealing with a medical condition known as Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS).
"The journey is far from over," Raquel captioned the post. "I finally got some answers as to what caused this but it's going to be a while til I can get it fully under control. I know one thing. I'm blessed to have an amazing support system. Family, friends, I love you all. Keep pushing through the pain!"

Rhea Ripley Breaks the Hearts of the WWE Universe, Announces Engagement
Needless to say, Raquel's accompanying video isn't for the faint of heart – one can't imagine the pain and anxiety she has had to endure as a result of her condition. Knowing what she's been going through makes her unexpected return and upcoming role at Elimination Chamber 2024 even more inspiring – it's likely the WWE Universe will fully support her in her journey to be the Superstar who stands across the ring from Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania.
It's clear that Raquel has truly been "pushing through the pain," and if her performance on Raw is any indication, the worst of her condition is behind her – although we're still crossing our fingers for the future.
What is Mast Cell Activation Syndrome?
According to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome – or MCAS, for short – "is a condition in which the patient experiences repeated episodes of the symptoms of anaphylaxis – allergic symptoms such as hives, swelling, low blood pressure, difficulty breathing."
You don't need a medical degree to know that MCAS could be debilitating for someone like Raquel Rodriguez, whose profession demands that she be in prime physical and cardiovascular shape at all times. It's exceedingly difficult to be a WWE Superstar when suffering from something like MCAS!
In an inspiring moment of fandom, the WWE Universe has come out in droves to her social media comment sections to offer its unwavering support. It's moments like these when it's clear that WWE has the greatest fans in the world.
Will Raquel Rodriquez Compete at WrestleMania 40?
Health-permitting, Raquel Rodriguez will almost certainly compete at WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia – what's up in the air at the moment, however, is who she'll be competing against!
Elimination Chamber 2024 will be a turning point for Raquel. If she can defeat Becky Lynch, Bianca Belair, Liv Morgan, Naomi, and Tiffany Stratton in the women's Elimination Chamber match, she'll have a date with destiny with the Women's World Champion at WrestleMania. That's a feat easier said than done; the other five competitors in the match are all staring at the same potential destiny in the face.
While all the competitors in the match have the same burning desire to go on to WrestleMania, there's arguably no Superstar with more motivation than Raquel Rodriguez. After the 2024 she's had, she'd love to put MCAS behind her and be the person who dethrones Rhea Ripley, who is quickly approaching the one-year mark as Women's World Champion.
After all, based on what we know Raquel's been through so far, we're sure she's capable of absolutely anything.
You can tune in to Peacock to watch WWE's Elimination Chamber on February 24 and WrestleMania on April 6 and 7. In the meantime, catch up on all things WWE Universe on Peacock.
