One WWE Superstar is Hoping to Replace Chelsea Green's Tag Team Partner, Sonya Deville
WWE Superstar Chelsea Green wants to make the best out of Sonya Deville's untimely injury.
The WWE Women's tag team titles situation is up in the air – but for one-half of the champions, a plan has already been set in motion to ensure the titles stay around her waist.
Earlier this week, the WWE Universe was shocked to hear that Sonya Deville suffered an ACL tear during her recent in-ring action, effectively sidelining her well into 2024. In a post on social media, Sonya described the timing as "bittersweet. After all, she and Chelsea Green had recently won the Women's tag team championship on the July 17 episode of Monday Night RAW:
How Does Sonya Deville's Injury Affect the Women's Tag Division?
It doesn't get much worse than ACL injury for athletes; while men and women can work through other injuries, an ACL tear means you won't be able to even walk normally for at least six months, let alone go through the rigors of a WWE match. It will be a long and grueling road to recovery for Sonya Deville, but we expect her to make a full recovery at some point in 2024. Although, to be honest, we're sure this will put a damper on her ongoing engagement.
Whenever an injury hits a champion, their title reign is historically stopped in its tracks – but due to the volatility of the women's tag team division lately, many in the WWE Universe are curious about what exactly will happen with the titles.
You're not alone if you feel like the injury bug has plagued countless WWE Superstars in the last month or so, but fortunately, Chelsea Green has a plan to hold on to the tag team championship for the foreseeable future. In one of the savviest moves a WWE Superstar could make in a time like this, Chelsea took to social media to try to do the impossible: Find a replacement partner in order to keep her championship around her waist!
How Does Chelsea Green Intend to Keep the Women's Tag Titles?
So far, Chelsea has made good on her promise. She's been reposting submissions from fans and wrestlers alike using the hashtag #ChelseasGotTalent. Predictably, the WWE Universe has come out in droves to stake their claim to the other half of the tag team titles. Even her real-life husband, former WWE Superstar Zack Ryder, offered his services! However, one Superstar is our early pick for Chelsea's partner – R-Truth, who is coming off a torn quadricep injury that occurred in October 2022. Never one to shy away from bombastic proclamations, R-Truth volunteered to be the other half of the tag champs.
"Chelsea, pick me!" R-Truth declared via video. "I rap, I dance, I sing, I play the harmonica, the piccolo, pickleball, and I even kill spiders on occasion. Not all spiders, 'cause Charlotte's Web was a good one. Let me be your partner 'til your partner comes back. I'll just be a stand-in, a proxy. We'll run the women's tag division!"
While R-Truth has an impressive list of accomplishments (and talents!), we have to admit that the likelihood of him being inserted into the women's tag team division is slim. However, as the WWE Universe knows, anything can happen! Could we see the birth of a new mixed-tag division with Chelsea Green and R-Truth at the helm? Regardless, we're sure more information about how WWE will deal with the aftermath of Sonya Deville's injury will be announced soon.
Whether Chelsea's plan comes to fruition remains to be seen – rumors have been flying that a women's tag team tournament is on the horizon with the explicit intent to crown new champions. Still, if Chelsea Green has her way, she'll be hand-picking her tag partner from a pool of worthy members of the WWE Universe.
